I would like the registry cleaner to identify when a registry entry was added or modified

It already has the columns Program, Data, Registry Key and User but if another column can be added that would show the date and time when the unnecessary keys were added or modified, that would be very helpful.

Is it possible?

do even Microsoft record the date/time Registry hive keys were added/modified?

not that I've ever seen, but maybe others more versed in the inner-workings of the mystical Registry could answer that.

Microsoft doesn't but I just want to know if it can be made possible in the registry cleaner

unless that info is already catered for with the Registry, then No, I can't see how Piriform could accomplish your suggestion.

where would they store such info?

they could possibly create their own file, but it couldn't be some dumb, 2D, flat file such as an .ini file.

some sort of indexed, database file would be required to track all the reg keys you remove via CC, and how would it know when keys were added?

Sounds more like something for an anti-malware or security software. In particular WinPatrol has been able to track registry changes for years, so perhaps look into it.

Another option to use could be regshot

or Registry Finder

Well, the information pertaining to the modified dates is definitely stored somewhere and tools like RegScanner can thereby be used to find Registry values by modified date of the key

you are correct, modified date is in the Registry.

just goes to show how often I get down and dirty in the Registry.

it's always a good day when you learn something knew. :)

Cheers! So will a feature of that sort be incorporated in the registry cleaner module?

Whoa there Skippy, let's not get too ahead of ourselves. :)

no idea on that front.

all any of us can do is post a suggestion and hope someone thinks it has merit.
