I am puzzled by graphic card memory reported

Hello,

I just updated my Nvidia graphic card from a 4GB GTX 760 to a 6GB GTX 1060. I attach screenshots of Speccy reporting on the two cards and I'm puzzled as to why the GTX 1060 is apparently not shown as having 6GB.

GTX 760

Memory 4095 MB

GTX 1060

Physical Memory 2047 MB

Virtual Memory 2048 MB

I also attach the Nvideo system readout that does show the GTX 1060's 6GB GDDR.

Is there an explanation why Speccy is showing the memory in such different ways, and not showing the GTX 1060's 6GB of graphic memory?

[EDIT - Corrected card memory from MB to GB]

Tony

lets verify if the reported 2gigs for the graphics card is coming from WMI.

can you start an elevated command prompt, type in wmic and hit Enter.

then paste in this and hit Enter; PATH Win32_VideoController WHERE "VideoProcessor LIKE '%GTX%'" GET /format:list

what is in the Adapter RAM field?

Done, and here are the first few lines...

AcceleratorCapabilities=

AdapterCompatibility=NVIDIA

AdapterDACType=Integrated RAMDAC

AdapterRAM=4293918720

Availability=3

CapabilityDescriptions=

Caption=NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

that should give the Dev Team something to go on.

2 things against you now is the Dev Team rarely chime in on these threads, so don't expect anything on that front unless they require further intel.

and, Speccy releases are few and far between, so also don't expect any resolution any time soon.

and welcome to the forums. :)

Thank you, and thank you very much for your interest. I may post something similar on the guru3D.com forums - perhaps it is caused by some change or difference in this particular card's architecture.

if you do discover anything useful, then by all means report back here.

it may help the next poor bugger when he discovers the same issue with his vid card. :)

I've not gained much from my guru3D forum post, other than that I now know that 1 Gigabyte is equal to 1024 megabytes (binary), and that the GPU-Z utility they suggested reports that the card has 6144 MB (1024MB x 6 = 6144.... so I do have 6GB.
