When scanning for issues under "registry" and a laundry list of issues comes up, do you just click "fix all issues" or are some of them better left alone? Thank you for your help....
Hello Paso64 - You are much safer if you check off only a few items at a time and be sure to use the "Save" option to save registry backups in your Documents folder. This way you can restore the registry entries if things go wrong. Do not delete these backups until you are absolutely certain that everything still works on your machine. CCleaner is pretty good at deleting only the items that are safe to be deleted, but it is not foolproof.
Registry items aren't really something we can consult on on an individual basis because it's very use-case dependant.
There's a help-topic here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=25513
and as always, Nergal says it best
ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION
DON’T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT’S CHECKED OFF.
Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)
ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’LL BREAK IF YOU DON’T.
Never delete a shared .dll., or a 'shared' anything. Matter of fact, just leave .dll's alone unless you are trying to get rid of everything from one app and already know what you're doing first. Either way, back-up everything before you delete. Every time.
@piaso64,
and also consider keeping the .reg backup files for a while as some registry problems only show themselves many months down the track.
to answer your question, yes & no.
yes; just clicking fix all issues is almost always the thing to do - after all, CC is the gentlest of the reg cleaners and you have to put your faith in it.
no; reg cleaning is potentially dangerous, so do the backup option, plus, is usually only done for extreme cases, like suspected malware and bloated registry. it probably shouldn't be done regularly and should be done with caution.
To be extra safe make a System Restore Point before using the registry cleaner.
