How to recover files from HD Camcorder (HDR-CX700V)

I recently deleted all the files from my HDR-CX700V because i backed them up on a portable HDD. However, now the HDD is not working and I'm trying to get back the files directly from the camera. It's connected VIA the included USB cord, however when i run the Recuva wizard the Camcorder is not an available search location. It's displayed under My Computer as a "Portable Device", but I cannot search it in Recuva.I also tried "No Assumptions Recover" software with similar results. Any recommendations? The camera has 96GB of built in memory, so I cannot remove the data card as there isn't one.
