How to Prevent CCleaner from Deleting Sylvius 4(a Flash Shared Object Applicaton Software)

I have just downloaded Sylvius 4, an atlas that is necessary for my class. It apparently uses Adobe Flash software for its applications. A technical note which I have listed here warns that programs that delete Flash cookies will disable the program. Is there any way I can still use CCleaner without affecting the Sylvius 4 program?

"Technical Notes: The downloadable version of Sylvius 4 is a Flash-based program, and as such, it stores its registration, drawings, and notes via Flash Shared Objects, or “Flash Cookies.” Any action on the part of the user that deletes all Flash Shared Objects will also delete all information that Sylvius has stored on their computer, including its registration, and will result in Sylvius 4 no longer being usable. Ways to delete all Flash Shared objects include, but are not limited to:

  • Privacy/computer cleaning programs such as CCleaner
  • Browser plugins such as BetterPrivacy
  • Deleting all cookies via a Web browser"

Hi cjeagle, and welcome to the forum.

Unticking "Adobe Flash Player" in "CCleaner\Application\Multimedia" would be the quickest and easiest way to protect that information.

Come back if you need any further help.

:)

EDIT: You may also be able to do this by excluding the relevant flash cookies ...

... which would enable you to continue cleaning flash cookies you don't need to keep.

You may also be able to do this by excluding the relevant flash cookies ...

... and also making a backup copy of a working set of them outside of the Flash folder somewhere safe, such as creating a zip with them stored inside it.

Thanks for the responses.

Andavari,

I actually downloaded this software in a zipped format which I then extracted. However, after extraction, I think I had to send my registration in first before I could access all the information, so the zipped files might not be usable without that registration. At the end of this month, Sylvius 4 is changing to an online format which would require a yearly paid membership and you will no longer be able to download this data even with my code. That is why I prefer to keep my downloaded atlas intact without CCleaner accidentally deleting it, so I can use it permanently without having to pay yearly fees in the new Online Sylvius 4 format. BTW, I am not sure you can zip this files or transfer it to a different computer without losing your registration and making it unusable.

Dennis D,

I will try as you suggested tonight on CCleaner and see if Sylvius 4 is affected. I would still like to use CCleaner to remove Flash Cookies that might contain malware without affecting my Sylvius 4 content so I will see if I can exclude just the Sylvius 4 files. Thanks for your recommendations.
