If I wish to merge the registry items deleted by cc cleaner, how do I do it?
After a scan, I chose to back up the registry items, in My Documents. I notice that if i right click on the file, it has an option to merge, but when i do that, i just get notepad come up with the reg items on - and thats all i can do.
If i need to put the registry items back, what exactly do i do?

The simplest way is just to double-click on your reg file and select Yes when asked it you want to add yourfile.reg to the registry.

Reg file can open with Notepad by default. Mine is that way, but i got "Regedit" in 'Open With' menu.

In the Folder containg the reg file then go to Tools then Folder Options then File Types and scroll down to REG then click Advanced then you can alter what is displayed in the right-click menu

I am using an xp machine at work - which is where im having the problems. However when im home using my xp, when i r/c the reg file and select merge, it asks me if im sure i want to put the file into the registry. I think thats correct isnt it? I didnt do it, but its good to know i can when i want to.
As for the works machine, i dont have regedit as an option, but what i could do is open regedit by start / run / regedit, and importing the file into it that way. i tried that and when i ran cc cleaner again, the same reg entries i previously deleted, where back again - so i must be doing it right. Can someone confirm this please - thanks again

To edit a reg file just right-click on it and select edit.
When I got home, i successfully managed to 'Merge' my reg file back into the registry - except, for some items, it said, which was already being used - what does that mean?
I can't find neither Reg.File nor Regedit, can only find :
-Packages registered and
-Registration
Are above same as Reg.file ? Thanks

I am a relatively new CCleaner user myself.You seem to be quite the curious type.
That's good and bad at the same time when it comes to the Windows Registry.
If you are new to understanding the internals of Windows,then I would recommend not using the Registry issues fixing function of CCleaner until you learn more.This is an advanced feature of CCleaner.
The average user doesn't have to do this,just use the "default" settings that come with CCleaner and only use the Cleaner function.
The Registry function and Tools function should only be used by more advanced users.
I do recommend that you bookmark the following links to "search", read,learn, and understand.

The first place to use is the "Help and Support" feature on your Start menu.This will help you find information related to NEW WORDS and TERMS.
I.E. Regedit, .reg files, Registry, Registration Entries, Install, Uninstall etc.
