Hi there, I'm a newb
and this is my first post but I'm struggling with an issue that I can't solve without some help. I'm using Vista Home Premium and CCleaner (v2.34.1200) has always been effective in deleting ALL of my history but in the last few weeks there have been several history url's that just reappear everytime I use IE8. On the address bar, in the drop down box are around a dozen or so url's that (I think) were all from the same browsing session or same day at least. All older ones have been deleted and newer ones are deleted just fine but these old ones I cannot get rid of. I've tried eevrything I can think of. Changed some settings on CCleaner but to no avail. I've checked for the index.dat files in windows and they aren't appearing in there? Does anyone have nay ideas of what to try next. I'm not that worried but one of the url's points to my son's 17th birthday present and I don't want him spotting it if I can help it! Tried scans with S & D spybot search etc to no avail and full scan with McAfee shows nothing.
As you can probably tell, I'm a total noob and just a little bit out of my depth lol
Any help much appreciated!
Hi nthnmunky, and welcome to the forum.
I don't have IE8, but two things to try:
Make sure "Suggested Sites" is turned off as shown here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/9450/disable-and-remove-suggested-sites-from-internet-explorer-8/
And disable "AutoComplete" as shown here:
http://www.aandrc.com/purgeie/disableautocomphist.htm
Hope that helps.
Hate to be a naysayer but the solutions posted didn't work for me. The only thing I found that did work was posted on the Microsoft answers forum by a guy called Kriminal...
Go to Control Panel/System & Maintenance/Indexing Options
In the window that appears, click "Advanced" and then "Restore Defaults".
Restart your PC.
This worked for me - but it's a bit of a faff to fix what is so obviously a bug (though Microsoft engineers seem to have their heads buried in the sand about it)
Unfortunately, even running CCleaner (which is otherwise excellent) does not remove these rogue entries. Maybe Piriform could investigate and try and incorporate a solution into CCleaner?
Hi Grey Area, and welcome to the forum.
Based upon the other topics we've had on this subject, for example ...

... I don't think it's gonna be an easy fix, but I'm sure the devs are working on it, and thanks for posting your findings.
