History dot dat and Temporary dot dat files can't be deleted

Hi, my problem is that for some unkown reason, Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files Folders appear in the Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Temp folder, complete with Index.dat files, that cannot be deleted by CCleaner or any thing else I've tried, unless you start the computer up in Safe Mode, then you can delete these files and folders. However when you restart Windows XP Home w/sp2 fully updated, they just reappear! They accumulate Index dot dat info just like the other set in \Local Settings\, except you can't delete them. Anyone with any solutions to help? Thank you, Conner

Windows XP Home SP2 fully updated

Internet Explorer 7 fully updated

I'm using CCleaner version 1,40,520 Also used versions 1,36 and 1,35 they all refused to clean the files!

I have added it to custom files and checked that radial button in Cleaner Settings, Advanced Section, Custom Files and Folders

It's probably not CC's fault they and other files can not be deleted at times. IE or some other program may be still actively connected to them somehow. I have found and used for a long time a little program that will unlock any stubborn non deletable file and if it cant immidiately it give you the choice to have them deleted at next startup. It's called Unlocker and works automatically whenever a file will not delete.

Have a look here. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1029-unlocker.html

Hi, 33conner, welcome. :D

I started to reply when you first posted this, but thought I'd wait: am not sure what the issue is, because of the file path you described to your temporary internet files (tifs). I have not seen tifs created in the c:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Temp folder. This may occur if you are logged on in to some account other than "owner", but I don't know for sure. Are you sure that is where they are located?

Might be a good idea to post your question in the "spyware hell: Hijackthis log analysis" section of this forum, along with a hijackthis log.

hijackthis can be downloaded from: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

edit:

TwistedMetal advises that HJT ver 2.02 is now available at: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Trend_Micro_HijackThis_d5554.html

Hope you get it sorted out.
