Help with recuva and a reformatted hard drive

I used recuva and I seem to have everything back but they won't work or open when I click them (music, photos, etc) so someone suggested a deep scan. I'm kind of new at this and I want to know what to do and how that actually helps. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm working on a computer with a reformatted hard drive and I'm trying to get my files back.

A bit of info here for you, and a bit of reading :)

Thanks! :) Though I'm still confused how deep scan will help me access the files I got from my initial use of recuva?

Okay, I seem to have the files but the thumbnails are not showing up and I keep getting "access denied" on everything can anyone help?

The data you recovered was from a previous install on Windows and therefore has the security settings from your old user account. You need to "take ownership" of these files to reset the security settings on them for the user account that you are logged in as now.

Here's Microsoft's instructions for Windows XP:

For Vista, this site has pretty good instructions:
