I have a problem.
Every time my 32 Bit Windows 7 netbook goes to sleep, I always lose my WiFi connection list when I resume.
I have to reboot, just to get it back!
Anyone know a solution? I NEVER had this problem under XP!

Perhaps your ethernet adapter has a function called something like ' disconnect on sleep' This sometimes can be buggy.
Have a look at its properties in device manager to see if it has something like that.
Which adapter do you have, and what make is your netbook?
I tried unchecking the option to allow Windows to turn off device to save power a few days back when I was playing around with it, but it still had the problem. I will look & see if it has that option, & check back in a few days. Thanks!
P.S. Netbook is Aspire One D260 model, & it has an Atheros adapter (I think), but I will post back later to be sure
you say you never had this problem on xp. Are we to assume that the two operating systems were both on the same computer? If so did you upgrade your ether driver to a windows 7 compatible version?
Yes, the 2 operating systems were on the same computer.
I used a clean installed XP on it, no problems.
I also tried a clean installed 32 bit 7 & then I found the problem with the wi-fi.
I was using the Windows 7 default installed driver for the device.
Wait is this solved?
& then I found the problem with the wi-fi.
Not quite. I tried it on my home WiFi, & after it resumed, it re-detected & reconnected.
While we were on storm, it had a problem re-detecting the wi-fi connections.
Maybe the number of connections available had something to do with it, as they scrolled off the screen where we were at.
But on resume, even the motel WiFi was not re-detected till a re-boot.
Adapter is Atheros. I am going to try a few things to further test what could be wrong, & see if I can re-reproduce it with more connections available. Or try letting it sleep with more than 30 seconds to see if it was a longer sleep needed.
Things I am thinking of testing:
- More WiFi connections (up town somewhere)
- Updated Atheros WiFi driver
Meanwhile, if anyone has any other suggestions, I will happily add those to the list to try!
I'd try updating the drivers, first. Maybe try a different WLAN management/connection software (not just Windows' own)?
Also recheck the power settings and update power/power management drivers.

You should try drivers directly from Acer. I have an Acer Aspire Netbook and I don't have that issue. But.....I have hibernation turned off also
Thread update (11-20-2012): Problem still exists. Attempting to resolve problem with one of the fixes listed below.
What has not worked so far:
-> Downgrade driver to very old version.
-> Update to latest driver.
-> Use XP driver for 7.
-> Disable Microsoft Loopback network adapter (didn't even have any)
-> Use user accounts & passwords to connect to other programs option
-> Leave Homegroup
-> Latest Bios. And there are no advanced options in BIOS of netbook that can be changed pertaining to wifi. Very basic time/security/boot options.
-> Disable power save under network adapter properties.
-> Update to latest driver from MS updates.
-> Enable Network discovery
-> Enable Hybrid sleep
-> Restart WLan autoconfig service (after resume from sleep).
-> CMD/ipconfig /release all -> ipconfig /renew (after resume).
-> Disable/enable adapter (after resume).
-> Task Manager/End explorer process/Restart explorer.exe (after resume).
-> Right-click connection/troubleshoot.
-> Can't downgrade to 7 beta. Nasty Media Player bug that ruins MP3 files, or so I heard.
-> Disable IPv6.
The netbook wifi works great on resume under XP. It only happens under 7.
When it first wakes up, it may even show the connections available for a short period of time, then they disappear & say no connections available.
The only thing that has worked (so far) is a reboot to get it working again.
If I allow it to enter sleep by itself or enter sleep/hibernation manually, I can resume.
Unless I leave it in sleep for oh, say, 30 min or more. Then, I can resume from sleep, but the wifi no longer works (till I reboot).
For each possibility I try, I have to let the netbook enter sleep for 30+ min.
Bear with me a few weeks while I exhaust every living option available that I can think of to find the solution & post it here.
This demon has haunted me long enough, so I am going to go full at it for the next week or two till I nail it!!!
Oddity observed: Set power plan to sleep after 1 min. Allow netbook to fall deeply asleep. Wake it (no wifi), then let it fall asleep in 1 min & wake it & wifi works.
Weird... Not the solution I am looking, so testing some more.
Still remaining to try (Reset connection to WPA2 & check other possible solutions):
-> Navigate to router settings via browser, & change to 801b output.
-> Install netbook chipset driver (test both XP & 7 variants).
It now seems that just about the only possible solutions (that I can think of) are:
- Use non Windows, such as Ubuntu.
- Use XP
- If using 7 & wifi is disabled on resume, send it to sleep & wake it back up. Or, set 7 to never sleep.
* Weird thing is, 7 will briefly detect the connection on resume from sleep, then it will disappear & say there is no connection available.
