It was suggested to me to get CC after my PC slowed down a little after a power surge.
Problem is, i'm a non-tekkie & don't understand how to use it.
Worse, i had cleaned a few things that looked safe & now i'm unable to place orders from several websites - various glitches occur. On the other hand, some work, so it seems this is not an across the board cookies problem. How do i correct it, & what can i safely remove from my system to gain extra space? I run Windows 98SE with Mozilla Firefox & use it only for email & surfing the Net.
Please reply in non-teknikal language!!!
BTW, my PC is much slower since i downloaded CC...how can i remove it if it comes to that?
Hello Replicant and welcome to the forum ![:)]()
Have a read of this and then, whatever questions you still have, come back and ask.

Thanks. But how do i know what startup programs i can safely remove, given what i use my PC for?
The instructions seem to take a lot for granted. They refer to being able to safely clean everything, but when i cleaned jst a few items that i thought i could do without, my access to a number of websites was screwed up & i could not order anything online from them (some sites did work).
The instructions, as is so often the case with such things, seem to assume that the user is already fairly familiar with the subject matter. I did not feel much more informed after reading them than before.
Did you manage to work out how to save the cookies you want to keep?
Open the ccleaner program, press options, then cookies. Sites that you have visited and have cookies for will be listed on the left. click once on them to highlight, and press the arrow in the middle to transfer them to the cookies to keep list.
You asked about removing ccleaner, as it is for most programs, the best way is in - add and remove programs - in your control panel.
As for removing programs from the startup list, it is really best to know what you are doing before you use this option.
If you do an "issues" scan, it will ask if you want to make a backup. You can say yes to this if it will make you feel safer, and the backup will be stored in the, my documents, part of your computer in case you need to use it.

In this case I would suggest leaving the startup and uninstall sections of CCleaner well alone. They are an aditional feature of CCleaner and not necessarily things that need fixing. Stick to the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues' section. Don't tick ANY of the boxes in the cleaners advanced section. And as Hazel suggested you can make a backup before fixing anything in the issues section.
Not being able to automatically login to some sites, and sites that save certain login information, is all to do with the cookies. Do as Hazel suggested by going in to the cookies section and setting it to keep the ones with website names that match the sites giving you problems. If you've already cleaned all the cookies you will need to go back to the sites and login before they will show up on the cookies list in CCleaner.
(PS you may also have problems caused by the 'power surge' you mentioned that may be unrelated to CCleaner)
