Help needed with Windows media player

A guy here claims to have solved it for his sytem, and is not happy with logitec's forums as no answer to this problem is given there.

There again on another link I was on, it said.....

Issue: After installing Logitech QuickCam software, each time the system is rebooted, multiple messages appear in the Event Viewer log from the MSI Installer alternating between Event ID 1001 and Event ID 1004. The 1004 Event ID states that a registry key could not be read. The key may actually exist, but the error still appears

Cause: This is due to a bug in the Logitech software installer. The NETWORK SERVICE user is attempting to read a registry key it does not have permission to read

Fix: Grant the user NETWORK SERVICE “READ” rights to the registry key HKCU\Software\Logitech. Click on the Advanced button and check the “replace permission entries on all child objects” checkbox

There seems to be loads of people with this problem.

I'm not impressed with Logitech software as at one time it placed a huge amount of entries in the registry making HijackThis logs very hard to read.

I do have a Logitech R-20 speaker set hooked up to my XP Home system that is driven by a Creative Audigy2 sound card that is quite good but I dare not turn it up much as the subwoofer would send the sound to the apartment next to and below me getting the people angry at me.

Roy Orbison's Greatest Hits, The Best Of the Moody Blues and Bruce Springsteen's

are among some of the CDs I have.

That's what a good set of headphones are for, they don't have to be uber expensive just a good set and you can play your tunes at anytime you wish without pissing off the neigbours.

Thanks hazelnut I think that problem is fixed... although I think this thread slightly wondered off the point :P

Okay, have a read here, and the replies a little further down the page.

thought it was going to work there as I do use CCC and I did have it set to custom and also it has fixed one file format ones which are used online by WMP (sorry I couldn't find the extension) which I was just getting a black screen with the sound that one now plays correctly but for mp3s, avi & wmv (possibly more formats) i'm still missing audio

I'm glad your problem is fixed.

There is no charge for the off the point discussion and it relieves the boredom and the durn aching molar pain until the drugs kick in

Try changing 'Audio device to use' in the properties for 'speakers' in the 'devices' tab of wmp options.

Try disabling the computers audio in the 'sound, video and game controllers' section of the Device manager, reboot, re-enable it, reboot.

Try reinstalling DirectX.

Go to wmp options->plugins tab->Audio DSP, is there anything there?

Try reinstalling the audio driver.

Run-> dxdiag.exe any errors on the Sound tab? Try changing the acceleration level. Use the Test DirectSound button.

Ok I did all of those things and, and, and one of them worked :D It works again and it hasn't done that in over 6 months

Thank you everyone who contributed to helping me, much appreciated :)

Really glad you are all up and running with WMP now.

With all the steps you have taken from links to correct this problem, you should almost qualify as a computer programmer now :)

lol not quite yet ;) but this the way to pick it up, I look after three machines which each have their own little quirks.
