Hard drive xp install

K, another question for you all. I have a computer that my little bro gave me that has a fried motherboard. but the hard drive (according to him) is still fine. so heres the question. it has windows xp on it. could i take out my current hard drive (if lets say it fried) and put in my bros hard drive and still have xp on it? would my computer recognize it? and, as long as i put in all my own software and set things according to my tastes, would it run normal without issue?

as well, can a computer be booted from xp on an external drive? so if i was to put this extra drive in an external case could i boot from it? thanks! :)

If you replace the mobo with exact same model then it should boot but any major changes such as a new and different mobo will render the hd unbootable.

The HD won't boot up on any other pc either but you could hook it up as a slave to get data from it.

cool. thanks for that. i didnt want to take my desktop all apart to test it out. lol...ive caused myself enough problems with ripping stuff apart and such.

on a positive note i finally upped my ram on my desktop to 1 full gb...which is all it will hold.
