Hard Disk Failed

Hi Guys,

I am new to this Forum.

My hard disk crashed and I am not able to boot.

Is there a way Recuva could help.

Any tips/tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi jsmakkar, and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of your hard drive problem.

In a word no, Recuva won't help. You need a rescue CD to boot your computer and provide a means of getting your data from that drive. Your files aren't actually deleted, just inaccessible at the moment.

One or two suggestions, but you will need access to another computer with the ability to burn blank CD's.

Rescue Kit 11 Free Edition:

BootMed: Free: (Download link)

What can BootMed do? (Help Files)

Once you download the Image File of either of these, it will need to be burned to CD as an "Image", and you can do this with either of these free applications ...

Imgburn:

Ashampoo Burning Studio:

There are other rescue cd's and burning software, but any of these should do what you require. If you need any help or clarification with any of this, just ask.

But before you go there, what exactly happened with your drive, just in case it's fixable.

BSOD? Black Screen, Error Messages? What were you doing when it crashed?

Updating drivers, installing software for example?

Thanks DennisD for your elaborate reply. I was kind of feeling lost in here and you came to my rescue.

I think I am getting the message like "system failure" or something.

Last time I shut down and there was no issue and today when I powered on - it didn't work :(

Thanks again! You ARE a genius!!!

If your hard drive had failed that would be pretty terminal, but a System Failure could be recoverable, but more information would really help.

By "it didn't work", what exactly happens?

How far can you boot for example, and do any messages appear on the screen with error information, such as a Stop Error number? Are you hitting a blue screen, or a black one, or nothing?

Do you have Windows Disks which would enable you to make a "Repair Install" possible? If not, do you know if your PC has a "Recovery Partition?

And if this sounds complicated, just provide whatever info you can, but the main thing of course is to have the ability to rescue your personal data. And don't worry, there are some good techie guys on here who will chip in if they have anything different to add.

:)
