Somehow I have managed to misplace a years worth of images on an external hard drive, I have downloaded the software and found all the images but when I start to recover them, it starts to hang and does not progress,
the images have not been deleted one minute they were there the next they had gone,
You don't say the size of your external drive, and a years worth of images could be an awful lot. I'm wondering if you're running into memory issues.
Have you scanned again and if so have you found the images as the first time?
You could try recovering them just a bunch at a time, which can be more successful anyway, and see if you encounter the same problem.
If you haven't already done so, maybe set Recuva's view option up to "Tree View" in "Options\General\View Mode" which will enable you to target specific files\folders for recovery.
You could also set up Recuva to restore to the identical folder structure the files were in originally ... "Options\Actions\Restore folder structure". Not the original folders of course, but a copy of same on the separate recovery drive. Makes sorting much easier.
You do know it's imperative not to recover to the same drive to avoid overwriting the files you're trying to recover.
