Gran Turismo: Best Game Ever!

OK, the best game that has ever been written (in my humble opinion) is Gran Turismo for the Sony PlayStation. I am not a gamer, but this game is addictive! I spent many nights and weekends with my PS2, Gran Turismo 1, 2, 3, & 4, bags of salted-snacks, cases of canned cola, you get the drift.

So, ever since I completed GT4 a few years ago, I have been waiting with anticipation for the next GT installment. Early buzz about GT5 revealed that I would eventually need to get a PS3. "No problem", I tell myself, "This game is awesome!"

Then the PS3 units were launched in 2006 for $600... No availability... Maybe eBay for $2,000... o... k... Granted, as to be expected, they were nearly impossible to get a hold of in the beginning, but I wasn't too worried. Besides, GT5 wasn't even available yet.

PS3 units remained almost impossible to get a hold of, up to and including the 2007 holiday. So, I'm starting to get a little annoyed, time goes by, the price of the PS3 drops (a little), and now I want a PS3 like I want Sanjaya to win American Idol.

I'm at Costco today, and I can't believe my eyes: Gran Turismo 5! Finally!!! My reaction; Ehh.

I don't normally hold a grudge, but the game console madness that takes place every holiday is getting old, just like our ridiculous gasoline prices. I expect short supply around the holidays, but doesn't Sony also share in the realization that every Johnny, Billy, and some guy code-named Xerxes (no offense, Xerxes) is gonna want one?

So, I am left with the only one choice: move on with my life, and say good-bye to the PlayStation.

The thing about the PS3 is it isn't just a gaming console! Sure it can play games however it does more. I find myself using it more for watching encoded movies (DivX, Xvid), and listening to music more than I use it for games.

Is GT5 Prologue worth getting a PS3, I don't know because I'm going to have to rent the game and play it first (perhaps you should do the same and ask a friend that owns a PS3 for a gaming day of GT5 that way you aren't out of hundreds of dollars if you aren't totally impressed). I really didn't care for the last GT that being GT4 which had some rather large annoyance factors such as halfass lopsided rules when you get a penalty if the opponent crashes into your car - that pissed me off more than anything, and of course some of the display bugs however every GT game since GT2 has been riddled with some rather noticable and inexcusable bugs, oh and I can't forget the s***ty soundtracks.

However; I must confess as soon as Grand Theft Auto 4 was released I did get a PS3, so sometimes it is all about one game to justify a purchase. GTA4 in my opinion is nowhere near as fun and long lasting as it's predecessor GTA San Andreas was.

Do what I do, say "screw the new systems until my caffiene-riddle system can afford it," and play old-school PSX games, DOS games, and so on. In my honest opinion, I haven't seen as many good games being released compared to those released pre-2k.

When I get my PS3 I'm gonna dual boot it with linux. I'm going to get a new mouse & keyboard just for it too.

and I'm a huge GTA fan but seeing some of the posts in some forums about things like the controls feeling sluggish compared to previous games etc, lack of numerous vehicles from SA and other things I can see how you feel that way. GTA's getting too real.

That's my view of it. For instance riding a motorcycle in GTA San Andreas was fun being able to do crazy stunt jumps that didn't always kill your player, however in GTA4 the motorcycles handle much differently and if you screw up doing a stunt jump you'll typically kill your player. In this case I think more realism doesn't equal more fun, just more frustration.
