Freespace Wipe Increased Used Space on C Drive

Last night I ran the Free Space only drive wiper. My C drive used space increased from 28G to 31.7G!

Can I recover that lost space? Why would that happen?

Sounds like you stopped the process before it was finished. You should see a big file or many at the root of your drive, I don't remember what they are named but are pretty obvious.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. This was the weirdest thing. The wipe was finished when I got up this morning. The problem seems to have cleared itself, I think. I ran Malwarebytes and it came up clean. Then I checked my C Drive and it was back down to 28G. I can't see why Malwarebytes would have any effect on this issue. Maybe it was just fortuitous timing. Still, I'm stumped and I'm going to keep an eye out for this in the future.

Thanks again,

Evan

Things that "fix themselves" as it pertains to missing hard disk space can sometimes be remedied by restarting your computer.

I hadn't realized that the wipe was still running, based on your initial post. Wipe Freespace did what it was supposed to. The tool fills your drive's freespace with these files then removes them. It wasn't your antivirus, it was the tool being finished that fixed this 'issue'
