Font update hoses programs

http://www.theregist...te_kills_fonts/

Apparently, MS released an update that intended to fix 1 problem, but it killed several programs at once.

But don't worry, they also claim to have just released a fix for it.

Not a claim Superfast, they did release a fix for it, and quickly.

The bug could be sorted by just uninstalling the update anyway.

This just in: yet another inflammatory ill-researched thread started by cat-avatar-person

;) The re-release happened 4 days and roughly 12-20 hours before you posted this thread home-slice SMH

removed tag from thread "we're screwed" is not appropriate for the tagging system as that feature is to aid in searches and thread identification.

As hazel says, all sorted now, but I didn't know that. I don't follow MS's antics so I missed it, and maybe a few others did as well.

... home-slice SMH

What on earth is home-slice SMH? You got me.

What on earth is home-slice SMH? You got me.

2 separate idioms, I left out a comma.

Home-Slice http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=home+slice

SMH http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=SMH

(my apologies for the racistly incorrect third definition of the second term, someone should post meddle in that definition)

'sup?

I wonder if that's why my computer became completely unstable for about a solid 2 week period, and then out of nowhere it stopped crashing.

Very possible.

Wouldn't be the 1st time an MS update hosed a machine.

I prefer manually updating so I can test & verify.

I only manually update from the Microsoft Updates site. I was leaning towards it being some MS Update because there was no other reason for the system to become so unstable. Anyways it's fixed now, so hopefully I can get another 1 to 1.5 years out of this old XP system before retiring it to be a lean music player only.

which works fine so long as you remember to go once a month, something I was not so good at pre-AU

Deleted by poster. Misread something chaps. :)

Every craptastic "Update Tuesday" I look, then it along with BITS gets set back to Manual in services. I would completely disable it, but MSE needs it for daily updates.
