Hi. I am making a back up when cleaning the registry but I can.t find the files in case I need to restore. I have looked in My Documents but they are not there. I have found a load of files under system restore but they are not the ones stored when I backed up. Can anyone help with this as I am very confused.
When you are asked if you want to make a backup when you clean the registry it should say it is saving it in my document by default unless you choose somewhere different.
The file will look like a piece of paper with blue blocks on it, and call itself something like cc_20090513_065530.reg
Are you saying you have used system restore since you made the backup? If this is the case, you may have restored to a time before you made the backup and that is why you cannot find it.
Why do we have the items in system restore and also the back up file ? Isn't this a duplication ?
The System Restore points you're seeing listed in CCleaner were either made automatically by Windows, triggered and made by an installation program, or by you manually. CCleaner only allows for creating backup .REG files to undo the registry cleaning, it doesn't however make any System Restore points it just lets you delete those you no longer want without having to wipe out all but the most recent one like what Windows Disk Cleanup does.
If you're having trouble finding those backup registry CC*.reg files such as them not being in My Documents look at this recent post I made.
