I'm looking at downloading Recuva and want to know once I have done this and got the files back, does the software repair corrupted files? If not what are my options please?
No, Recuva will copy what is there, byte by byte, no more or less. It's very difficult to advise how to proceed without knowing anything about the file or system or corription, except that it won't be easy.
Hi Augeas
The files which are causing the problems seem to be the excel and word ones... is there a toll or software that mends corruption? All my files and folders in question are on a usb stick?
If you mean is does the paid Recuva fix corruption then no. I don't know how the corruption was caused and if I did I doubt that there's a simple fix. Is it file deletion on FAT32?
yes, they have been overwritten by jpg's and mov files.... god knows how thats happened and they have disappeared - so i guess whatever caused this error has deleted them.
If they have been overwritten then there's little chance of recovery. You could try a deep scan, but the odds aren't great.
I have somehow lost volumes of files on a 2TB USB drive. Luckily, I have most of the files stored elsewhere, but the recent ones I do not.
The software sees the files, restores them (claiming there are 0 errors), but when I try to open the XLSX , PDF, or JPG files, they are claimed to be corrupt. TXT files seem to recover fine. Am I missing something?
As soon as I saw that the files were missing, I undocked the USB drive and have not written anything to it. Most all of the files show that they are in excellent state.
Any guidance / assistance would be greatly appreciated.
