Excel files .xls

Hi I was recommended recuva to help with some excel files I have that are a problem, prehaps the software isn't what I'm looking for.

These files were not deleted but for some reason I am now unable to open them, with excel either saying they are read only or from a read only location (not) or in another version of excel saying there is unreadable content.

Other spreadsheets from the same drive open fine, just a problem with these 2, can recuva help me with this.

When I scan the folder they are in recuva finds 0 files.

Hi Ellacino,

Were you the creator of those 2 Excel files?

Have you right clicked on them and made sure they aren't set to read-only?

Do you know the version of Excel that made them? And is that the same version you are trying to open them with?

What's their file extension; XLS, XLSX or something else?

As to Recuva, No, it won't help as the files aren't deleted, they are 'live', just not opening - maybe corrupted.

Some other areas to cover are failing hard drive or file corruption.

With that in mind, from a Command Prompt, do a sfc /scannow and a chkdsk c: /f just for thoroughness more than anything else.
