Error Message

Hi ya'll!

So this problem started after i let a friend make an account on my machine. I run Win7 on an Asus Netbook. I deleted his account today and reinstalled CCleaner. I've never had any other problems with this machine over the course of a year+.

Upon starting CCleaner this error message appears: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR1. It gives me the options to Cancel Try Again or Continue, but none work and the message stays til I reboot.

Is my HD damaged? As I said I've never had a single problem other than this one, hope someone can help! Thanks.

Is he still your friend ?

I do not understand why you allowed him to use your administrator privileges to create a separate profile which presumably had the same power of life or death on your system.

I really doubt that your drive is physically damaged,

but I would guess that some damage has been done to the Operating System.

The Portable version of CCleaner does not use the registry. This may work for you.

It is just possible that your new installation of CCleaner has seen and is using old CCleaner registry keys that are no longer appropriate.

In the worst case some one with administrator authority may cause damage that can only be undone by an administrator with greater skill and authority,

or by re-installing Windows.

Yeah, he totally did it without asking me, but I would have allowed it since he's a geek and I'm not; he was bunking with me for a while.. He's still my friend, but he's institutionalized, hah! I seriously cannot follow any techspeak I just frequent sites I trust and do as people like you, Alan_B, suggest. It's been awhile since I've run CCleaner and the slowdown is noticeable.

Ouch, Bad things can happen.

20 years ago a colleague was responsible for the programming of PALs and GALs (complicated integrated circuits)

He booby trapped the MiniComputer which did the programming so that when his special software was used,

a special access code had to be provided without warning - i.e. no prompt for the code.

He felt that "his" software was his Intellectual Property and no one should use it in his absence.

If the special access code was not submitted the software was erased.

He was "Getting his retaliation in first" should he be terminated and replaced.

Unless you have 101% trust in your friend and his motives,

please consider whether you should notify your financial/bank/credit card suppliers of a potential breach,

and or visit Spyware Hell.
