and when i try to right click on anything that pops up. its super annoying. and the sound in my computer stops working and windows explorer keeps shutting down. i scanned the comp, clean of all spyware/virus, etc. and then did a system restore to awhile prior to it happening. nadda. all stays the same and annoying. i googled the error and it says it could be from an improper deletion of a program, problem is is that i dont know which one, so i cant search for the registry keys, etc. to delete manually! i was installing and uninstalling lots of programs while testing them out, and cant even remember which one it was. everything from opera to ie7pro, etc. lots and lots of programs. any suggestions? im at a loss and ready for a fresh install (which is a pain in the butt!)

Wow!!!
I would at least use Dial-a-fix and worse come to worst select the the "Green check mark" and "Go" for it. http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix
It saved me more than once.Sometimes just a fix here and there does it also.
After you hopefully fix things, use Returnil. The only programs I can't test/try out, are ones that need a reboot.
I've tried hundreds of different applications, and I've never yet found one that will not run under Returnil. Reboot, and everythings gone. No uninstall problems.
Not much help for your current predicament, but will probably avoid future ones.
Edit: You don't need to install the Virtual Partition to use Returnil in this way.
Hey, Dennis . . . with Returnil's Protection "on," is there any way to bypass the protection and selectively "save" something (if I wanted to?)
Hi Tom, I save stuff all the time, although not really by bypassing the protection. I save all music, images, program installers etc, onto my partition.
Then if I like a program I've just tried, I reboot and install the program onto my system drive from the installer I've stored on my partition. If I don't like it, I bin the installer.
You can of course save everything onto a second drive and/or a memory stick.
With the Premium Edition you can do more, but this is so easy to use it covers everything I need.
dial a fix doesnt work for vista.......im gettting all kinds of errors now....including firefox not working, etc ill read some of those links furhter....just got home from a long day at work...

Yeah Returnil is a must have program for testing things out. I would also recommend that even after you test an app out on Returnil and decide you like the program you are testing and decide to install it I would track the install with Zsoft so if you decide to uninstall it later you can totally remove it.
Thanks for all the help guys...I will definately download returnil and give it a whirl for further testing so as not to mess things up.
On the bright side, i figured out the problem. It was a corrupt installation of axcrypt (thanks so much for the link YoKenny-it totally did the trick!) that was causing the problem. Everything appears to be working good, but ill have to play with it more when i have a moment, but im off for another 12 hours of work in a few...
