E-mail

Hello

I use microsoft office outlook 2003 as my default e-mail.

If I delete e-mails to and then from the deleted items and then run ccleaner with the wipe free space box ticked.

Will the deleted e-mails be recognised as free space, wiped and thus securely deleted.

Not if Outlook works in the same way as OE. The emails are held in independent data bases and when deleted they will be flagged as such and retained in the database. You can compact these data bases to recover space held by deleted emails. CC does not clean emails, and wipe free space won't touch them, apart from the possibility of wiping space freed when you compact the email data bases.

Thanks Augeas for your prompt reply.

My problem is not recovery of space but to delete e-mails securely.

Anyone got any ideas how to delete e-mails securely?

Incidently if e-mails are held in independent data bases, flagged and retained, then how does anti-virus clean and delete e-mails carrying viruses.
