Has anyone encountered this? My laptop has an SDD in it. The old HDD drive I had is connected via USB. I want to wipe the old drive and get a warning that I shouldn't because CCleaner thinks it is an SDD.
I plan to go ahead and do it, but thought you guys should know
Actually, I'm trying to use "3 Pass", and the options are disabled. C is an SDD, D & F are two partitions on an HDD. G is a memory card. What's up??
3 passes would be over-kill, up to you of course, but 1 is all you need.
this problem of HDD's being reported as SSD's (and for that matter I seem to recall it being reported the other way as well) has come up before and I don't remember there being a solution apart from 'the Devs are looking into it".
some straws to clutch, disconnect the USB drive being wrongly reported.
restart CC (or even reinstall CC) and see if that helps.
maybe try installing the portable version. if you are going to reinstall, reboot the PC between installations.
and you could even try running CC with the PC in Safe Mode just to see if that changes the mix.
but for me, I wouldn't even use CC to wipe the drive, just plug it in and use Windows to reformat the thing.
use Quick Format if you don't have sensitive data and just want it all 'wiped', or do a low-level format (no slower than CC secure wipe and definitely faster than 3 passes) and it'll write all 1's (or 0's I can never remember) to the drive.
