Drive Wiper problem with 1tb drive

I have two drives, C: has the O.S. WinXP and CCleaner. D: is a Western Digital 1TB Green drive. I was using the WD drive as extra storage but decided to install Win8 on it. In preparation for the install, I ran Drive Wiper. Thinking with an analog mind dealing with video tapes (FF through new tape to prepare it for recording), I ran the following:

Wipe - Entire Drive

Security - 3 passes

Drive - D

Seven hours later it was finished. I removed the C: drive and set D: as the master. Installing Win8 stops with the error no device driver. Subsequently, discover that the drive is not even seen by the computer. I return computer to original configuration. WinXP discovers the WD drive; thinking that this is the solution to the problem, I format the WD drive. Then I discover that the drive capacity is only 33mb.

I search Western Digital site for device drivers, none exist as they say Windows should recognize the drive (which it has done only at the much smaller size).

Researching this Forum has told me there should be a folder containing the data to be replaced onto the D: drive, but I have a feeling the Format has erased that folder.

I may have turned the 1TB into a brick, but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Personally I think a Secure Wipe of an HDD would do more extensive damage than a quick Format.

A possible source of grief is how 32 bit XP cannot deal with GPT disks.

Q. Can the 32-bit version of Windows XP read, write, and boot from GPT disks?

A. No. The 32-bit version will see only the Protective MBR. The EE partition will not be mounted or otherwise exposed to application software.

There is more than one result when searching for "Western Digital 1TB Green drive".

I strongly recommend that you specify the exact model plus any options.

Here's what I did to solve the problem:

Downloaded:

http://hddguru.com/software/2007.07.20-HDD-Capacity-Restore-Tool/

I installed and used this software to restore my HD capacity. I had to give the WD drive it's own channel, run the software, turn off the computer and turn it back on. The computer stopped at the BIOS check and showed a bunch of letters and symbols. I turned off the computer and started it again. Now computer booted all the way. I then went to My Computer>Manage to recognize and format drive at its original size.

I like the Drive Wiper feature, though maybe it needs more description so analog bumblers like me don't create more work for ourselves.

Thank you.

Congratulations on achieving such a fast fix.

I would like to add my congrats to Alans, and an appreciation of you taking the trouble to come back and update your topic with information which will undoubtedly help others.

Thanks for that.
