I have a sata hard drive that has/had 130 gigs of music and pictures on it. I have built a new computer system and while the drive shows up on my computer when I click on it I am told that I need to format it. I had it formatted at ntfs and had 130 gigs of music and pictures on. I tried running recuva on it, but I am not able to choose this particular drive as it shows up as not formatted. On my system hard drive i am running either windows 7 or windows xp with a pentium 4. If I format this sata, data drive am I screwed or will recuva be able to get data ffrom it? I have accessed this hard drive within the last 2 weeks.

I've had a similar problem previously when I've resized a partition. The process went slightly awry because the product I used had changed the partition table to (effectively) mark the partition 'out of use' but then it didn't get changed back again after the resize. All I had do do was find a utility to reset it ... literally a matter of changing a couple of bytes. If you're technically savvy it might be worth having a look at this. I used something (free) called Test Disk for Windows.
