Don't Laugh

I don't even use a cell phone so you know where I'm coming from. Someone suggested a while ago to install CCleaner - which I did - but I'm afraid to use it. For instance - under Programs to Remove - a long list comes up. Dell Connect, Dell support, hotfix for windows, jasc paint shop, modem helper, security update for windows - on and on. Is there a way for me to know which ones to delete or should I just leave well enough alone? Thanks.

Hi oceanbaby, don't delete anything from that section of CCleaner. This is a too often mistake made by new users, and has been brought up before.

That section of CCleaner is simply an alternative to Windows Add/Remove Programs feature.

You can use it to run the Uninstallers of programs you want to remove from your PC.

I wish this feature of CCleaner was made much clearer to new users. I can remember at least 3 occassions of people thinking this was stuff to be removed.

By the way, welcome to the forum, and there is a good guide on CCleaners use here:

Come back if you have any more questions. I promise not to laugh. :D

Good advice from a respected member of our forum.

I am glad that you joined and asked that very important question.

I feel the same as Dennis. This area does need clarification.

Stay away from the Registry cleaner also until you learn more.

The settings for the Cleaner as they are when you install it are safe to use.

The Advanced cleaning options should not be used until you learn more also.

Some people like me turn off the option for the Recycle Bin.I like to handle that myself.

You may have certain things that you don't want cleaned also.

Review all the options and uncheck what you don't want cleaned.

(BTW)By the way, every time I use a cell phone I have to ask the owner how to use it.

You come back and ask any questions that you need answered or advice.

We are very friendly here.
