I had to set up a new account. With the recent changes (not sure why — it’s overkill) but I can’t login with my username and password. Any workarounds?
If you mean from the old forum then as you notice it has been changed to a different software platform now.
All users were sent an automatic email about the change 12 months ago, but of course that was sent to the registered email address and if you no longer used that particular email address then you wouldn’t have seen the email.
As part of that change users had to set a new password when first logging into the new forum software.
When you logging in using your regular username following the forum software change then it would prompt you for a new password, which you had to verify by email sent to the address that you had previously registered with the old forum.
Of course if you no longer had access to that email address then you couldn’t get the verification message when you tried to sign in using the old name.
I’m guessing that you were previously just “Hmm”?
That account is showing as being active but hasn’t been “seen” since Sep 5, 2024.
I do note that’s just 8 days after the automatic email about the forum change was sent out.
Did you try to log on back then but couldn’t change the password because you didn’t have access to the old email?
If you were ‘Hmm’ then I think that I can force the forum to resend a verification email if you try again to log in as ‘Hmm’, but of course that will be sent to the email registered for ‘Hmm’ and if you no longer have access to that then you won’t get it. So I won’t try that yet.
Whilst it would be a shame for you to loose such an old username (first registered 2008) you may be best just using your new registration.
For now all I can do as a mod is to upgrade the status of that new account so that it has full Member permissions rather than being a new user account. I’ll do that now.
I could ask if Admin can merge the two accounts together, however they may not be willing to do that for security reasons. (How can you verify that you were indeed ‘Hmm’?).
PS. If you have a CCleaner licence then what email is that registered to? If it’s the old one then you may need to contact support to get it changed.
