Recuva recovers files to wherever you specify. It will not replace them where they were. They should be recovered to a separate folder on a different drive from the source drive.

How does he know. That question makes little sense to me, but he has used the program that's how he knows.
If you don't have a separate drive go to walmart and buy a flash drive. If you recover to the source drive you will lose some of the files you want to recover.
As far as other softwares question. Yes, that's roughly how any recovery should be done. But this is an official company website so we won't be suggesting alternatives.
