Does CCleaner get all the index.dat stuff?

Just as the title says, does CCleaner get all the index.dat stuff? Or must I use something in addition to CCleaner in order to clean that stuff up?

What do you mean

What do you mean

Does it clear or erease those files? Or does it delete them? Does it catch all of them?

To investigate this I right-clicked index.dat. -- analyzed, it showed I had some files. Ran CCleaner secure delete single pass. Analyzed again, showed zero files.

Then I ran Everything search engine. It showed I had 21 files in C:, 1 file in D:.

21 Index.dat files?

What kind of files?

Your not being clear, & it is confusing!

It will take only a few minutes for you to replicate exactly what I did. Your questions will be answered, you won't be confused, and I won't have to provide a long detailed list of files, explanations, etc, etc. :)

I am not aware of any Microsoft copyright to the name Index.dat.

How on earth would anyone expect any cleaning utility to remove all instances of Index.dat regardless of position.

Here is an easy example, created 2 minutes ago. I have selected the CMD.EXE window responsible, copied, and pasted below

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Users\Alan>dir index.txt
Volume in drive C is C_System_C
Volume Serial Number is 3E16-BCE7

C:\Users\Alan>echo %time% > index.txt

If I can do that via CMD.EXE there is nothing stopping any application from writing an Index.dat anywhere,

and if you run a tool that removes every instance of Index.dat you put at risk the integrity of software you purchased.

index.dat section in internet explorer section: these files are vacuumed empty when that clean is run. The files themselves are not removed.

Ok, so they are basically "filled with zeros" thanks!

What?!?! no where did you get that. They are simply emptied of all data. There is no data in there once .dat is run. The reason Kroozer sees some results is that not all .dats are emptied some are removed, but these are not the main dats (cache, history etc) those ones are emptied in the same manner that the are emptied when you do "delete browsing history" from internet explorer. In fact often times the delete browsing history windows will appear while ccleaner does it's thing (I think that is only on ie7 and ie8)
