Does anyone know what Adobe's acroext.exe does?

I apologize if this is off-topic, but I found a post dealing with acroext.exe and I hoped this might be a signal that someone might be able to answer my question...

I have Acrobat XI and it's in my C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\AcroExt\ folder.

right clicking on it shows a file description of Adobe Acrobat Extension Framework.

so, if you have Adobe products installed, leave it, it's legit.

what it physically is needed for, I cannot say. :)
