I recently acquired CCleaner and have been cleaning my computer once a week with "Easy Clean." I just realized that I've also been cleaning out my recycling bin at the same time. I don't want that. So I setup "Custom Clean" and unchecked the recycling bin box.
However, now when I analyze as the first step in a custom clean, and after the analysis is complete, I get a prompt that that says, "Details of files to be deleted" (Note: No files have been deleted yet.) That's a very good announcement for me, as I don't wish to delete the wrong stuff. If you know what I mean.
That prompt is followed by the following five items:
Internet Explorer - Temporary Internet files...........System- Windows Log files...........Google Chrome- Internet Cache..............Google Chrome- Internet History (which I don't wish to delete)...............and, Google Chrome- Cookies.
I'm wary of clicking on "Run Cleaner." I don't want to loose my browsing history. Would all five of these have been deleted in the "Easy Clean" mode anyway? I don't think browsing history was deleted in the "Easy Clean", but I'm not sure. It's all very confusing. Any help would be appreciated. All I want is to keep my computer relatively clean and healthy, not lose my recycling unless I choose too, and not delete my browsing history. I just need to keep things simple.
Thank you.......Dave
Sorry for the late reply, your question seems to have been overlooked in all the fuss about the new version.
Easy Clean/Health Check is meant for simple use and has it's own rules for what it does, you can't change those rules.
If you want more control then you have to use Custom Clean where you choose what to clean or not clean.
You are presented with two tabs/lists, Windows and Applications, of things that you tick to clean or untick to leave alone, the lists are pre-pouplated with popular choices but you are free to change them.
In the Options you can further specify particular cookies to keep, and can even add specific includes for files that CC doesn't clear by default, and excludes for files CC would normally clean but you don't want it too.
So in your case you want to leave your Chrome browsing History alone then you would se Chrome on the 'Applications' tab and simply untick 'Internet History' under Chrome in the list.
(You can have different settings for each browser this way).
I don't have Chrome here, but you'll get the Idea from this which is the Firefox list.
This is set to clean the history, and everything else except saved forms and passwords.
If I didn't want the history cleared then I'd simply untick it.
If you want to use Custom Clean as the default then go to Options>Settings and under 'CCleaner Home screen' select Custom Clean.
Thanks for that. But can I setup so that my recycling bin isn't emptied?
Certainly,
Simply untick 'Empty recycle bin' under System on the Windows tab and CCleaner Custom Clean will leave it alone.
Just to be absolutely clear -
Settings made in Custom Clean only apply to Custom Clean, - they DO NOT apply to Easy Clean/HealthCheck which will always use it's own rules.
