Deleted files on one partition

Hello everyone,

I'm totally lost since I found out last night that my son deleted everything on one partition of my hard drive, which included ALL of the photos and videos of my kids and my family for last 10 years. The bad thing is that I don't know when did he do it - only yesterday or a week ago.

My question is: what would be more eficiant and more likely to succeed: to start Recuva on that system, or to remove hard drive, attach it to another computer and scan from there?

The second would be the most ideal. If you have a second computer you can slave the drive to you've cut down the chance the data will not be (further) overwritten. Make sure, no matter which direction you take, to recover the files to a drive that is not the same as from where you are recovering.
