I have been using defraggler for some time now and never noticed any problems until now, when i defrag my windows 7 system and then re-analyze my system its defragmented worse than when i started, for instance 5 min. ago i analyzed and had 4.7GB of defragmentation so i defragged then when i looked at the outcome (squares) above most had turned blue and i was happy so i analyzed again and all the blue squares that were fixed previously re-turned red and it said i had 4.8GB of fragmented files more than the previus analysis how can this happen did it defrag or lie i want to buy the program but not if it says its done its job but infact it hasnt its actually made things worse? this never happened with XP so why now? any help and advice would be greatly appreciated .
Try excluding restore points & hibernate file: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=35062&view=findpost&p=209775
If that doesn't help, try stopping VSS: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=35235&view=findpost&p=210857
Also which version Defraggler are you using?
You cannot buy the program... it is free.
What you pay for (buy) is premium support from Piriform instead of the free help available on this forum.
Thanks nodles and hazelnut as im new to this site i still need to work out how to direct information to you personally but in answer to you question nodles Defraggler v2.09.391 (64 bit).
Did you check/try the links/suggestions I provided?
If you did, did those settings help?
Hi nodles thanks for setting me straight with the email and i appologise for contacting you that way but if there was an explanation section on this site i would learn how to properly conduct my post and answers and if there is a explanation part i havnt found it. The answer to your question is 'Yes' i copy and pasted the links into my toolbar but got 'server cannot be found' each time.

I suspect TWO independent errors here.
1. Google Toolbars are horrible things I would not allow on my system. I suspect by Toolbar you probably mean "Address Bar" which shows the address of a web-page
which right now for me is
http://forum.pirifor...showtopic=35354
2. Address Bars do not understand shortened and malformed addresses.
I repeated your steps and got the same result, e.g.
When I copy Nodles link
http://forum.pirifor...ndpost&p=209775
and paste into by Browser Address Bar I see
forum.pirifor...ndpost&p=209775 preceded by http://
and the messages
Pale Moon can't find the server at forum.pirifor...ndpost&p=209775.
Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
But when I CLICK on the link the address bar receives the full address
forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=35062&st=0&p=209775entry209775 preceded by http://
and I am where Nodles intended.
. . . i copy and pasted the links into my toolbar but got 'server cannot be found' each time.
Can't link by copy & paste cos they are shortened links. Just click on them.
Hi Alan B i did as you suggested and it sent me to Kroozer's post (Thanks) so i followed her tips and so far so good defraggler showed the same outcome after i defragged and then re-analyzed so thanks for you help And thanks Kroozer for your suggestions but there is one question about it - now that ive excluded those files will they defragment in the back ground and get messy without me knowing about it?
now that ive excluded those files will they defragment in the back ground and get messy without me knowing about it?
Why would it matter ?
On XP each R.P. may be perhaps 50 MB, of which NOTHING is every read apart from a few KB of a change log that records each new entry,
or when your system crashes and you need to Restore to a previous time.
Is it worth spending an hour a week keeping R.P. tidy if it only saves a dozen seconds when recovering from disaster once a month ?
If you abandon the computer and it hibernates in your absence,
does it not come to life when you hit a key before you have adjusted your chair and sat down ?
To answer your question - Expect no change.
