Defragger ate my free space

I just downloaded Defragger, (yesterday 3/16/2011), and started it this morning at 6 a.m. It finished at 8 p.m. (14 hours) and ate up 5.5 GB of available free space.

Why? And is there a way to recover my free space? My system defragger leaves me the same amount of free space I start with. Why so long defragging and why eat free space?

There's a good chance there was substantial growth in your Shadow Copy storage, which will show up in your Sys Vol Info folder size. This happens with all defrag utilities.

You can reclaim much of that space by eliminating older Restore Points using CCleaner's System Restore management option. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

There are many variables which can account for long defrag times.

Kroozer, I like reading your responses to people.

You always seem very courteous to others, & you (usually) have pretty good advice. Have to say that attitude is everything, & it is nice to know that some people haven't forgotten manners.

I like the way you treat others.

Yes, System Restore does eat up space, so if that happens, may have to curtail the sys restore points. She is right on the $$$ on this one.

VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) tends to freak out and make lots of backups if you run programs that move files around (Are you defragging free space?)

If yes, I'd have to agree with Kroozer on this one!
