Besides the completely horrible 1998 design, that site might just have every free program worth listing on there.
If you look at the top it also has a list of free OSes and freeware for MAC users. (along with games and stuff as well)
I'm currently testing out a few things I've found on there.
It is a cool list and I like the fact that they list what type of license a program has, i.e.; freeware, GPL, etc.
The only thing though is I absolutely can't stand black websites, too depressing looking.
Like I said the design is horrible, but there is some good stuff on there.

Trying Notepad++ and ShapDevelop couldn't use the ivy generator cause I am no 3d artist though it looks nice.
