Here in the southern parts of "Australia" we do have snow & ice in winter, but nothing like that! especially at sea level

Looks like "Lake Effect" storms they have east of Lake Erie. I think Buffalo,N.Y. and nearby cities claim to be "Snow Removal Capital of the World" If not then "of the U.S."
Amazingly, only a few miles away the area can be completely free of ice and snow.
