Dealing with partly recovered files

Hi,

I'm using Recuva to salvage data from a nearly full 1TB drive. The drive is not accessible from Windows. Overall it works like a charm and after an overnight run I was able to apparently copy the majority of the data to another drive.

However, there are also files that were only partly recovered. Namely, 42799 partly recovered files out of 215248 files total. As the contents of the disk is a mix of media files, text docs, programs, etc., it's obviously not practical at all to check each file one-by-one to see if it works or not.

My preferred mode of use is Tree View, as that way I can select which folders to recover and which I don't care about. However, in this mode I don't see the comment on the status of the files.

I could use the List View, sort by Comment, and only recover files with the comment "No overwritten clusters detected", however then I would have no record on which files I was missing. Again, problematic due to the amount and mixed nature of the files concerned.

I hoped that in Debug mode the log file would say which files were only partly recovered (ie. corrupted), but unfortunately the log does not contain any useful information in this case.

The Save List as Text File option is also not helpful, because the saved file does not include descriptions of each file's state (ie. what you see in the Comment column of the List View). To add to the annoyance, the files are not sorted in any particular way and there's no option to change the sorting.

Do you have any suggestion on how to deal with this?

An ideal solution for me would be the ability to export a tree-like, sorted by directory then name, list of files that were only partly recoverable.

Alternatively, mark each recovered file on the target drive by appending a .PARTIAL extension if it was only partly recovered and/or overwritten on the source drive.

Any other straightforward solutions that would allow to later batch-process party recovered files would be appreciated too.

I'm posting this here instead of the Suggestions section in hopes that I am after all missing something that would address my issue.

The only thing I can think of, at this time in the morning, is to do as in para 4, and recover the good files with folder structure enabled. Then repeat the exercise only selecting the bad files. You would then end up with a good recovery and effectively a list of bad files. What you would do with this info I don't know.
