Crap Cleaner and Windows Media Centre Issue

Hi

Well just to introduce myself i'm Rich (in name not means unfortunately)

Been meaning to join this Forum for a while but a problem i am having in Windows Media Centre has kicked me into doing it

I am running Windows 7 and latest Crap Cleaner version

Problem i have is when i run the cleaner and leave the Windows Media Centre box ticked in applications The next time i open Media Center i receive an error message Video Error Files required are missing or not installed Please re-start Windows Media Centre or Windows

I am using Windows Media Centre to watch Digital TV through a Compro card all drivers are latest and no faults

If i restart Windows Media Centre all is well again and i can watch DTV

If i uncheck the Windows Media Centre box in Crap Cleaner Applications there seems to be no problem at all

Could Crap Cleaner be taking a file out that Media Centre needs to initially start up ? It always works second time i start it

Just lately i've resorted to unticking the Windows Media Centre box in Crap Cleaner so all runs smooth

Bit Baffled its as though some temp file is removed during Crap Cleaner run but then Windows Media Center replaces it somehow once its opened more than once

Thanks for any help

Rich

Easy

Untick Media centre and click "Run Cleaner",

THEN

Tick media Centre and click "Analyze"

Double click on the Result and you will see the details of all items targeted.

If you right click on the detailed results you can save the information as Log.txt

It may then be obvious to you which you need to exclude from cleaning,

otherwise attach Log.txt to your reply for Media users (not me) to advise.

Hi Alan

Looks to be to do with the Windows media TV guide

I have a feeling that the files with the "log" extension show what has happened and should not affect the future,

i.e. their absence would not stop the media centre from working.

The "sqm" extension suggests the possibility that some essential configuration data is held,

in the absence of which Media Centre will abort and rebuild.

I would suggest that when the media centre aborts and needs a restart,

it has to create

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\logs\eHomeLog00.sqm.

If you excluded that one file from deletion

and also just possibly

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\logs\mcsrchph0.log

you may find that Media Centre will not complain about removal of the other files.

You can exclude via CCleaner -> OPtions -> Exclude -> Add

Hi Chaps

Well thanks for some interesting replies and advice its appreciated

You are correct ref the mcsrch0.log file and ehomelog00.sqm files However if i exclude them from Crap Cleaner by adding the specific files Windows Media Centre seems to simply re-create the next number ie mcsrch01.log and ehomelog01.sqm after crap cleaner has run after a while multiple files build up ?

Its almost as if i would have to exclude all those files with .log and .sqm suffixes Not quite sure how to add this in Crap Cleaner

Any more help at all please

Thanks

Rich

Windows Media Centre seems to simply re-create the next number ie mcsrch01.log and ehomelog01.sqm after crap cleaner has run after a while multiple files build up ?

That is exactly what I was going for.

Short of taking ownership and prohibitting write access to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\logs\

Nothing at all, including CCleaner, is able to prohibit Windows Media Crapper for continuing to march from 01 to infinity.

All that can be done is use CCleaner to delete that trash, just like all the rest of the trash from all the other things that happens when Windows Runs.
