Corrupt files

Upgraded to latest Version 3.00.1310 and found ALL my personal documents have been renamed with random figures and when selected I get "The file name is incorrect, syntax error"

I cannot open ANY files, documents, pictures or music files.

Have tried System Restore and no change. What happened? How can I fix it. Please?

Can you give more info please.

What operating system are you using?

Are you the only account on the computer?

Did you use the registry part of the cleaner (issues)? If yes, did you make a backup when offered the chance to do so?

Were your documents on C drive?

And please give any other info that could help us help you.

You upgraded CC, did you actually run it? Where did you download CC from? What's the folder name of your personal documents? I don't know of any way that CC could rename live files.

OK, Sorry I didn't specify things, in a bit of a panic.

Hazelnut,

Running Windows XP

Only one account, one user.

Ran the regular cleaner, then registry cleaner and then Wipe Free Space.

Did back up before (Unable to locate back up file.)

All corrupted files where on D drive. Operating files are on C drive seem to be untouched.

Word Doc's, picture files, video files, and I Tunes music collection all same results.

Properties of D drive says it is still 95% full, as it was before 'CCleaning' so feel (dreaming) they may still be there, just completely jumbled up.

Augeas,

Have had CCleaner for a good while, no problems before. Upgraded and ran it once, regular clean, no problems. Ran again and used Wipe Free Space and this is when things went belly up.

Downloaded from Piriform website, filehippo link.

Everything is/was on D drive, regular 'documents' file, 'pictures', 'video's and 'I tunes Library' etc.

Not sure what else I can add.

Think I am 'Wiped' Royally! Six plus years of pic's, video's, docs etc gone!

Did you use WFS from Drive Wiper or the usual place (Settings)?

Used it from Drive Wiper, do not know of any other 'settings'.

Assuming that the d drive is not your system drive, is there a chance you could have selected Wipe Entire Drive instead of Wipe Free Space?

The 'usual' place for WFS is in Options/Settigs.

D Drive is a separate HD. If I recall correctly I went in Tools, Driver Wiper, Free Space Only and left it at single pass.

I have also run Recuva and managed to get back a dozen or so images, PDF files and a couple of short video files.

Thanks for the help guys, will keep digging.
