Cookies: Gone or Not Gone?

I've noticed today that when I run the Cleaner and look in Options/Cookies that there is still a list of cookies to be deleted. It seems that I remember previously after running the Cleaner all the cookies I didn't wish to keep where gone, i.e. the left hand pane was empty. Am I misunderstanding something or is the cleaner not working correctly? Thanks...english44

Are all your internet browsers off?

Also Could be ghost cookies

and many more

Some have suggested unchecking index.dat before cleaning (in case they are internet explorer cookies, which you do not tell us)

many have had success after a computer reboot

Ghost cookies - interesting. Yes, my browsers are closed and I have rebooted many times. In fact, I've uninstalled CCleaner, put on older versions, uninstalled them and still that list of cookies appears in the panel of those to delete. I'm running Vista Business and IE7 and recently added Firefox. The problem started just after installing Firefox but I don't see any connection to the install. Further, I cannot find the temp file where the cookies are stored in VISTA.

Thanks for trying.

I cannot find the temp file where the cookies are stored in VISTA.

For my Vista I have them in IE 8: Internet properties\General\Browsing history\Settings\View files. And further down the list: Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yjy5atyw.default

Thanks, I think I've fixed it. I did find the cookie file by changing the attributes of files displayed and the CCleaner is also fixed. I downloaded and installed an older version, which apparently does not have the problem.

Take care...English44

I had this same problem after installing CCleaner 3 on Vista. I also ended up going back to 2.36.1233 and everything's fine.

They're back!

My computer is a complete mess this morning. Got an error message about Catalyst control center not working - I think it's got to do with my video card. Then System Restore went gaflooey - then I got it to work again - now all my favorities in IE7 are missing and it won't import them from Firefox or Opera or even import the bookmarks.htlm file. So I'm not sure which problem I want to attack first...

Stay tuned and help out if you can

Seems to be a popular issue.

Please note the Developers are hard at work trying to fix the ghost cookie issue. Also be sure these aren't flash cookies. If they are flash cookies you need to check Adobe Flash in the Application tab

After a lot of bumping into trees in a dark forest, I got rid of the ghost cookies - back to an earlier CCleaner version. Favorites is still a blank slate in IE7 even though they are there on the hard drive. As far as Catalyst Control goes, haven't a clue and just too damned tired to try now. At 70 y/o, I just don't have the patience for the conveniences of computers!

BTW, the fix for Catalyst didn't work. No "repository" folder in VISTA. But thanks anyway for trying.

[uPDATE - UPDATE

CATALYST IS BACK TO NORMAL. Apparently, just doing half the fix you suggested, got it done...without the necessary file listed.

Now, get my favorites back in the browser!
