Cleaner slow to run

Hello everybody!! My cleaner is set to run on startup and until recently this has happened almost instantly when windows has loaded but now it is taking up to a minute or so for this to happen. Not an earthshattering inconvienience but annoying all the same as there seems to be no reason for it! The only recent update on the computer has been to HP Photosmart which I've now removed to no avail. Bizarrely the delay doesn't stop me logging onto the internet even though the icon clearly states that there is no connection but it does stop me from accessing other programs on the desktop until it has done its thing. Have tried reverting back to an older version again to no avail, has anyone any idea's?? Cheers!! Oh and its started to re-arrange my favorites aswell which it never used to??

Hi gigglebug :)

To to clear up any possibilty of malware/virus you may want to consider following the steps here

Hi Hazelnut, had tried going through the list yesterday but avg keeps picking up a trojan horse from the comedien and the others stopped working when trying to run them. My comuter other wise apart from this seems to be fine and everything as up to speed

Are you able to get malwarebytes to run a quick scan is safe mode?

I will ask our spyware mod Rorschach112 to look at this thread to see what he advises.

Ignore that, AVG is being a pain

You sure you haven't installed anything new lately ? In particular security programs ?

Try this as well

Download Security Check from here or here.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Download TFC to your desktop

  • Open the file and close any other windows.
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

Hi ya! Have attached results of security check, hope this sheds some light!! Nothing new installed lately

checkup.txt

checkup.txt

looks fine. I don't think this is malware but if you want, you can go to the Spyware Hell forum to rule it out

Also perhaps check that the HP update didn't include something which ran at startup or a service.

Hey guys, just a quick update. Problem seems to be solved by doing 2 things, not sure which has made the impact but not caring at this point!! Have set the HP cue device to manual in services and turned off network dicovery, either or maybe both must doing there thing before allowing other programs to run. Hope this is of use to someone and not just an obvious remedy!! Cheers for setting me off in the right direction!!

Hi gigglebug,

Glad to hear you are sorted now. Sounds like it may have been something to do with HP.

I must admit I am wary of any HP updates or software, they seem to have a habit of biting the user!!

Take care now :)
