I am trying out CCleaner Pro since I am having an issue where Google Chrome and Firefox don't work anymore, only Microsoft Edge does. See attached screenshot of what happens when I start Google Chrome. Firefox just hangs. I tried out CCleaner Pro and it worked, issue gone. However, after turning off computer (Windows 10 64 bit) and restarting the issue with Chrome and Firefox recurred and now running CCleaner and Registry tool doesn't fix. Also, a number of registry items are identified but are not deleted, see second attachment. Ideas please? Thanks very much.
Do you still have Norton's installed, and if so, have you tried temporarily disabling its Auto Protect to see if its firewall is the cause for your browsers not working?
Also check your proxy settings in Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings. Make sure nothing is ticked.
Having run the reg cleaner may have made things worse. (but more on that topic to come later)
Thanks. Norton is installed, disabled Auto Protect but still no Chrome/Firefox. Had already uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, no joy. Nothing ticked in proxy settings. Yes, the Yahoo search URL is the default when Chrome opens - get the frown emoji no matter what is entered.
Since you have Norton installed, in that first screenshot you supplied you need to right-click everyone of those entries and select to Exclude them - they're a part of your installed security therefore they shouldn't be removed.
And the Yahoo search entry; if you didn't specifically set that yourself as the default you could've installed some "free" software that set it as the default search engine since allot of installs (with adware in them) will want to change your default homepage and search engine to something else.
Make sure it isn't malware:
Please read item number 10 titled "10: Giving advice on Malware Removal" in the forum rules located here, and choose any one of the forums/sites listed in it. Those forums/sites can determine if your system is infected with malware or not. Hopefully it isn't malware, however it's better to find out even if your system comes back as clean since something malicious could be causing the issue, and it really does seem rather strange that two completely different web browsers are having issues on your Win10 system.
