CCleaner wont stay open

I have seen other people mention this issue before and unfortunately all of the other things everyone mentions are already in place and I've already tried. Ccleaner latest version (3.00.1310) works fine on windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit. On computers running windows xp professional sp3 I downloaded the latest version today and now the ccleaner program opens then automatically closes after about 3 seconds. I have checked the advanced options in the program and they do not tell it to close. I checked the desktop shortcut and it does not have the \AUTO switch in place. I tried going to the registry and looking for the piriform\ccleaner registry key and the only options I have there are "language" and "update key."

I went to the program files folder under c:\program files\ccleaner\ and the only thing there is a file folder called LANG and another file called uninst.exe and the ccleaner executable. Someone mentioned an INI file that is supposed to be there but it's not.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled ccleaner multiple times and tried several different older versions of ccleaner and once you've put the 3.00.1310 version on the XP system they all do the same thing.

I have other computers here that are running 2.32 and 2.35 and I havent updated them and they work pefect.

HELP!!!

As I am unclear as to which type of build you have used, can I suggest that you try a couple of things.

1. Try downloading from a different browser and installing.

2. Use the slim version at the bottom of the build page here

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Post back and let us know what happens.

Hi.

Installed Chrome and downloaded and got exactly the same results. Went to the build page you mentioned and downloaded and installed the "slim" version from both chrome and IE and got exactly the same results. The program even right after the first time you install it closes within the first 30 seconds of opening when you go to run it. I also forgot to mention I have several systems that are running MCAfee anti virus but it does the same thing whether I have the anti virus software enabled or disabled.

Okay, next idea.

Will ccleaner run in safe mode?

Is it worth trying the Portable version.

I never trust the registry to behave properly.

I was unable to update my Comodo Security for a few months until I learnt how to take ownership of registry keys.

Windows had totally blocked 2000 subkeys and prevented completion of removal and a fresh instal.

I think Portable applications are the one thing the registry gremlin cannot damage.

Hey Everyone-

I will try safe mode the next time I am there and let you know. Thanks for your suggestions.
