I ran CCleaner on Monday, November 2 on my computer with the most recent update of CCleaner.
After I ran the CCleaner including the registry cleaner I started having issues with Internet Explorer 8. To make a long story short, after countless hours trying to fix things myself and more countless hours on the phone with my anti-virus tech support, Microsoft tech support and HP tech support we came to the conclusion that Internet Explorer 8 or 7 (once you uninstall IE8 hoping for a fix) is corrupt.
There is no version, cipher strength, nor product ID listed on About Internet Explorer.
I have enable javascript errors on every secure website. I am able to successfully use Firefox, but that doesn't help my problem with my anti-virus since it must be installed with Internet Explorer. And while on the phone with HP they told me that registry cleaners like CCleaner aren't made for Windows Vista.
He gave the example that it's like having a appendectomy with a weed-wacker instead of a scalpel. Sure it cleans up what it's supposed, to but who knows what it might wreck along the way.
I even tried merging the saved registry files and that didn't do a thing. I also trying to do a system restore to before Monday and there are no system restore points and CCleaner has none listed also! The only recommendation I was given is to back up my entire computer and then do a system restore to bring back to original factory condition.
I really hope someone else has a better fix than that! I also tried running IEFix7 and it doesn't work, it just says installation failed. Please help! I consider myself computer savvy, but I am not genius, so easy to understand terms is greatly appreciated!!!
