CCleaner will not run when windows starts

I've Windows 7 Home Premium using CCleaner v2.34.1200

I just can't get it to run when the computer starts even after uninstalling it using Programs and Features and re-installing a fresh download.

I have cookies for both Internet Explorer and FireFox checked and when I analyze, it finds a number of cookies to clean. I go to Options-Cookies, I see them. I go to Settings and check the box for 'run ccleaner when the computer starts'. I close the program, restart Windows and I don't see the quick appearance of the task bar icon showing me it's cleaning and when I open CCleaner, I see the same cookies are still there.

If I open CCleaner and run the cleaner, they are gone. I browse some more, close the browser, reopen CCleaner, I see more cookies... So the program seems to be functioning okay.

Thanks for any help.

Launch CCleaner and look under Tools / Startup.

Is CCleaner listed as one of the start-up items ?

Perhaps you did not run configure CCleaner with sufficient authority for UAC to allow you to modify start-up launches - or perhaps you have malware protection would blocked startup changes.

Thanks Alan.

Actually, I ended up running the uninstaller, rebooted, then deleted every instance of ccleaner I could find for in the registry. It's all okay again now, well, except for the UAC thing. I am trying to create a scheduled task for it so as to get around the UAC, I read about it here somewhere, but can't quite get it to work yet.

Thanks,

Windows 7HP

Hi Alan,

Guess I spoke too soon because it has again stopped running at windows srart and I had done no changes to it what so ever.

CCleaner lists it in the startup items: Yes HKCU:Run ccleaner "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO

If I didn't configure CCleaner with sufficient authority for UAC, how do I do so now?

As for malware protection, I have none specif for malware that are pro=active. I only have the free scanner ones after the fact.

I do use Kaspersky Antivirus, Comodo Firewall (free edition), and Winpatrol. I've had to click yes to Winpatrol to allow CCleaner. None the less, I've tried disabling all three (unchecked enable protection for KAV, set firewall security level to disabled for Comodo, & unchecked automatically run winpatrol when computer starts) and restarted windows and it did not help.

Very weird!

Thanks for the help,

Selvan

This weird behavior is still there but it's no longer an issue for me because I've figured out how to set the cleaner to run at windows start using the task scheduler. And an added plus is that with the scheduled task there is no prompt from the UAC of Windows 7.

I use XP, to which dual boot W7 has been recently added.

I still default to XP.

UAC gives no grief because it is set just above OFF,

and I depend upon third party malware protection.

My personal choice is NEVER use CC at startup.

I logged-on to do things, not to wait for CC to purge yesterday's junk.

Actually there is no junk from yesterday,

because when I finish with the computer I simply double click my special desktop icon,

which with no further action on my part allows me to clean my teeth etc,

whilst CCleaner is launched in /Auto mode and concludes by shutting down the P.C.

This not only saves me from start-up frustration,

it is also a courtesy to another user because my Firefox cache is empty,

and therefore the disk has more free space for her to use,

instead of a a start-up clean that would leave my cache full when she logs on.

n.b. our profiles are private therefore we cannot clean each others caches.

I am unable to advise further, but I expect others will assist.

I am out

Regards

Alan
