CCleaner will not remove registry entry

I've downloaded and run the lastest CCleaner Free and for the first time ever (years and years), it will not remove a registry entry. Here's the culprit:

"The file referenced at: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AvastVBoxSvc\ImagePath could not be located. These references are often left behind after uninstalling software.
Solution: Delete the registry key."
I've run CCleaner at least five times to no avail. Any thoughts?

Can't remove keys related to your antivirus/security software, my guess is this is a good thing and not a bug

Just exclude the key scotty. Right-click on it in the scan list and select 'add to exclude list'

Avast is just protecting itself from something that is trying to delete part of it.

As this is how malware would try to cripple an av it's a good thing that avast is defending itself.

Are we correctly assuming Avast is the OP's AV software and it is still installed?

Couldn't that CC message be displayed because Avast is no longer present and CC has flagged a redundant hive key - which it can't remove.

If Avast is still installed it has self-protection to stop its files and registry settings from being tampered with - any good antivirus should do this.

If Avast is uninstalled it could merely be that the permissions on the key need to be manually changed so that it can be removed.
