CCleaner "Unhandled WIN32 Exception........."

When I try to start version 535 I get "Unhandled Exception in CCleaner.exe [xxxx] ................" where xxxx is a four digit number that is different each time.

The computer is running Windows XP Professional.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pete

Are you on sp3 for your xp

Yes. I have an older version of CCleaner, 3??? something that runs fine.

He's asking if your Windows XP running Service Pack 3, here's how to find out:

Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties. Underneath the "System" heading it will state what version and Service Pack you have installed.

Another possibility is if your computer isn't SSE2 compatible, if it isn't you may need to use an older compatible version. Here's a previous topic discussing it:

Sorry, I should have split my response into two paragraphs. The "Yes" was "Yes I am running SP3".

I got that older version to run so I'll consider this CCleaner task complete.

Thanks to all.

Pete

also realise, even though your old v3 of CC works, that it is 'set in time' to the software of that same time.

for one example, it won't know of all the recent changes Firefox has done to where/how it stores things.

and it may be trying to delete index.dat files instead on 'cleansing' them.

that sort of stuff...

If it is an SSE2 incompatibility issue according to the topic I linked to here, using version 3 isn't necessary because supposedly CCleaner 5.26.5937 was the last version that worked with non-SSE2 compatible processors according to what users posted in their findings.

CCleaner 5.26.5937 (Standard Installer) released 17 January 2017 can be downloaded at:
