Maybe the Wipe Free Space option is checked, if so, uncheck it. That is something I would not recommend to be checked too often.

Then if the previous version suits you better, then revert to the previous version. The newest version doesn't really come too far ahead of version 2.29 in terms of functionality so I assume version 2.29 will still suite much of your preferences.
On that version too this problem set-off , not journal yet ex that version subsists this problem
